What a cat eats has a big impact on their health and, what’s more, growing kittens have a greater need for energy than adult cats. Therefore it is essential to give your kitten food that is specially formulated to meet the needs of active, growing kittens. With our food, you know that your kitten is receiving everything they need in the right quantities.
Ideally, a kitten’s food must combine high energy and protein, to enable healthy growth and development, along with a variety of key minerals to support strong skeletal development. It is also vital that your kitten has access to fresh water, preferably in several different locations.
Don’t give your kitten milk as this can lead to stomach disorders.
SHOULD YOUR KITTEN HAVE WET OR DRY FOOD?
It is crucial that you give your kitten food that is specially formulated for their age and activity level. There are advantages to both wet and dry food, and you can help your kitten find what is best for their growing palate by trying both. Or a mix of both wet and dry food.
The advantage of dry food is that it can be left out and your kitten can eat whenever they are hungry. Cats eat little and often, by nature. However, not all kittens can regulate their food intake, so it’s a good idea to put small amounts of food out several times a day.
One advantage of wet food is that it is a good source of fluids, but it can also be beneficial to greedy kittens. Even though they need a lot of energy, they should not be allowed to grow too quickly and wet food can help with this. Wet food gives kittens a feeling of fullness without providing them with too much energy,
HOW MUCH SHOULD A KITTEN EAT?
How much food a kitten needs depends a bit on how big they are. Follow the guidelines on the packet when feeding your kitten. It’s important to enable your kitten to grow slowly, and not too fast. Under normal circumstances, a kitten should reach adult weight at around 8-12 months. If you notice that your cat’s weight increases too quickly, reduce the portion size or the number of meals per day.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD A KITTEN EAT?
It is important to keep in mind that food with a high energy content – such as kitten food – quickly gives a feeling of fullness and even though kittens often have a large appetite, they also have smaller stomachs. Give your kitten small amounts of food on at least four occasions a day – this improves the chance the kitten will eat the right amount of food at a steady pace.
